Introduction to UX

User Experience [UX] is a term used to describe the overall experiences a user has when interacting with a product or service as the case may be.

User Experience Design [UXD], consider every element that shapes the user experience. It's all about designing specifically for the needs of the user or customer, considering different factors like ease of the user, quality and efficiency.

The term 'UX' was first coined in the 1990's by Dr. Donald Norman. He was an electrical engineer and cognitive scientist at Apple.

In Norman's own words, UX is meant to encompass all aspects of a person's experience with a system, from the materials used to the interaction itself ( physical/ digital), along with the interface, graphics and orientation.

UX design process includes the following:

-Research

-Design

-Testing

-Implementation

The first step to be taken as a UX designer is to research the project. Research makes it easy for designers to be able to focus on problem-solving and be able to create useful products.

After the research stage comes the Design stage. At this stage, we can make use of WIREFRAMES, which is like a blueprint or demonstrating the layout of the design and how it will function.

A PROTOTYPE is essentially a scaled-down version of the final product. A stimulation or sample version that allows you to test your ideas and design before you get them developed and Finally Implemented.

Iteration is the process of continuous testing and improvement.

Every field has its different sectors likewise UX.

Under UX, we have different aspects one can specialize.

1 Experience Strategy (EXS)

2 User Research (UR)

3 Information Architecture (IA)

4 Interaction Design (IxD)

As a UX designer, one has to create a Portfolio to show 2-to 3 projects one has worked on and the process used to achieve the products.

There are some key elements of a good UX design portfolio

1 A powerful introduction headline

2 a detailed 'about' section

3 thorough case studies that detail your process

4 images and real artifacts.

5 contact information and links to any additional projects (e.g. blog or social media)

According to recent research, UX designers are among the top 10 high-paying jobs in the world.
